A Meeting With Prince William

This week The Duke of Cambridge was due to be in Scotland to meet with us and other Scottish Charities, however with the ongoing suituation this meeting was cancelled and a video call was set up instead.

Yesterday, Prince William called Lifelines Scotland to hear from representatives from the Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Fire and Rescue and Scottish Mountain Rescue about how we are working collaboratively with one another to embed mental health and wellbeing support across their services, and to tackle the stigma around seeking out support. We also spoke to The Duke about our own experiences with mental health throughout our careers.

Steve Penny, our Wellbeing Officer who represented Scottish MR in the video call said, “It is clearly a point of interest to him, to make sure that preparation, understanding, training and support is available to everybody, not merely the emergency services but the volunteer responder services that support them. He is very keen that volunteers are offered the same sort of support.”

The Duke was very keen to hear more about the impact that the current coronavirus outbreak is having on mental health within the emergency responder community in Scotland, and thanked each of the organisations for their tireless work.

It was a pleasure to speak with Prince William and we are very much hoping to work along side him in the future.
