Supernova Forth Road Bridge 5k

01/11/2025

On the evening of Saturday 2nd November, a unique event lit up the skyline to the north of Edinburgh. Traffic was halted, headtorches were donned, and the Forth Road Bridge was illuminated by thousands of runners in an atmospheric sea of lights!

The inaugural Supernova Forth Road Bridge 5K was a huge success, and raised over £250,000 for charities. Amongst the runners were 37 fantastic supporters who took on the challenge for Scottish Mountain Rescue.

We are deeply grateful to all of our 37 runners for supporting us. With 3 out of 5 rescues funded by donations, the sponsorship they raised will have a direct impact in powering our teams to respond, whenever someone needs help in Scotland’s outdoors.

Meet Our Supporters

We caught up with some of our runners to hear all about their experience at this year’s run.

Kerri, Simone and the Peak Performance Scotland Team

Running the Supernova Forth Road Bridge event was such a unique and special occasion. The event was very well organised, with a fun briefing and warm up, before we started our run. The bridge looked amazing with bright colours and branding projected onto the central support columns. Our group from Peak Performance Scotland  in Perth were all up for the challenge and were running to support and fundraise for the Scottish Mountain Rescue. Three of the Peak Performance Scotland team took on the National Three Peaks Challenge this year and a more of the team joined them in training with group mountain hikes. Thankfully we didn’t need the Scottish Mountain Rescue but it was reassuring to know the charity was there. I have friends that needed their help this year. The work they do is amazing and hugely appreciated and we are very glad our team could help to raise funds for them. ”

The Peak Performance team have raised an incredible £455. If you would like to help support them and tip them over their target of £500, you can donate on their fundraising page: Click here.

Well done to everyone at Peak Performance! The substantial amount you’ve raised will empower our Mountain Rescue Teams to continue saving lives in the Scottish outdoors. We hope you’re really proud of your accomplishment.

Iain, member of the Grampian Club

“I love the hills and am a member of the Grampian Club.

We appreciate the voluntary work you do in keeping the hills safe and saving lives.

We are in awe of your commitment, especially when called out in horrid conditions.

The Supernova Forth Bridge 5k is great fun.  It is quite a sight with 5000 runners lighting up the evening with their head torches provided by the organisers!”

Thank you Iain for your kind words and wonderful fundraising efforts! With your support, we can ensure that our volunteer teams are equipped with the gear, training, and operational support they need to be there when people need help in Scotland’s hills, mountains, and wild spaces.

Alastair, Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team member

Mountain Rescue volunteer Alastair took on the challenge with his friends. The group added a refreshing twist to the evening by going for a dip in the sea beneath the bridges before the 5k, and celebrated completing the run with dinner afterwards. “Good fun” says Alastair.

Looking ahead to next year…

With strong interest already building for next year’s event, 2025 promises another chance to be part of this illuminating experience.
